Speaker Biographies - New York

Adam Sussman, Partner & Director of Research, joined TABB Group after serving as a senior product manager responsible for order management systems, routing and next-generation trading tools focused on the equities and options markets at Ameritrade, Inc., a brokerage industry subsidiary of Ameritrade Holding Corporation (NASDAQ:AMTD). Adam joined Ameritrade in 2002 with its acquisition of Datek Online and worked closely to merge each company’s technologies into a best-of-breed solution. He also developed several strategic initiatives, including a dynamic algorithmic order router, a distributed event notification system and Trade Triggers™, which allows clients to set orders in advance to be sent automatically when certain market conditions are met, days or weeks later.

At Datek Online, beyond his primary responsibility for Datek Streamer, which was built on Windows servers and the first real-time streaming market data product available through the Internet. He also ran market-data processing, overseeing their decimalization conversion efforts in 2001. He earned a BA in philosophy and comparative literature at the University of Rhode Island. His background includes teaching English as a second language in Changwon, South Korea. A freelance writer, he has had articles in Details, Men’s Health and Time Out New York magazines.

Julie is Head of International sales of Credit Suisse’s Advanced Execution Services (AES) offering in the Americas. The AES group designs and builds algorithms and systems capable of fully-automated trading based on client specifications. Algorithms based on thorough execution research and continuous live experimentation, performed by teams of Credit Suisse quantitative analysts and traders located throughout the globe.

In marketing direct market access and algorithms, Julie and the AES team focus on market microstructure research, pre/post trade analysis and liquidity profiles of individual names and markets. They work with the AES quantitative research team within Credit Suisse to develop and understand the most suitable strategies for the various markets to assist in customizing strategies and educating clients on optimal usage. Prior to joining Credit Suisse, Julie was in sales and management of various regions within North America marketing electronic international equity trading for Bloomberg Tradebook/G-Trade Services. She is a graduate of Marymount College of Fordham where she studied Economics and currently resides in New York City.

George Kledaras is the founder and Chairman of FIX Flyer, a financial technology company. He is also the author of numerous articles about the FIX protocol and electronic trading standards, and a frequent speaker. Kledaras founded FIX Flyer in 2006 to re-invent electronic trading infrastructure. In addition to FIX software, he created new technology for real time trade reporting, commission management and monitoring for exchanges and brokers. FIX Flyer has offices in New York, Boston and Hyderabad with over 160 clients globally and counts some of the world’s greatest financial and technology institutions as partners.

He is well known throughout the technology world as the founder of Javelin Technologies Inc in 1996. Javelin is recognized as the leader in electronic trading software, particularly the first high-speed FIX messaging engine. Javelin was sold in 2002 to NYFIX and now part of NYSE Technologies and Appia is still in use around the world today. Kledaras received a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA, and an MS degree in Mathematics from the Courant Institute at New York University. He is frequent lecturer on entrepreneurship and helped Lehigh start their innovative Masters Degree in Analytical Finance program. He also served the Board of Trustees and as Chairman of the PC Rossin College of Engineering Advisory Council, both at Lehigh University.

Nigel Roberts is the CEO of Marco Polo Europe, and Founder of the Marco Polo Group. He was formerly Head of Global Sales and Marketing for Marco Polo Capital Markets. Nigel started his career as an Equity Analyst at James Capel (HSBC) in London, moving to New York in 1988 to manage the UK Equity Sales desk. He joined Lehman Brothers at the end of 1989 to manage the non-dollar sales and sales trading business in the United States.

In February 1995, he was appointed to the Equity Capital Markets Group responsible for the non-dollar origination business. Nigel left Lehman Brothers in 1997 and joined Standard bank of South Africa to establish a sales, research and trading presence in New York and London. Throughout almost 30 years in the financial services industry, Nigel has managed many different equity product lines as well as research, sales, capital markets and electronic trading operations. He has extensive cross border experience having worked in both London and New York. Nigel holds a Bachelors degree in Engineering from the University of Liverpool, England.


Jim joined the BSE Limited (formerly known as the Bombay Stock Exchange) in July 2009 as Head – Market Development. For 2 years, until July 2011, he was a member of the exchange’s management committee and responsible for managing several functions of the exchange including strategy, market data, index products and the exchange’s international and investor relations.  He was also on the Board of Directors of several BSE subsidiaries, including CDSL, the central securities depositary, and CDSL Ventures.

Since July 2011, Jim has remained at the BSE as a Senior Advisor based in New York, assisting the exchange in the continued transformation into a financial infrastructure and transaction processing company. 

Prior to joining the BSE, Jim worked as Senior Managing Director of Galileo Global Advisors, and at the New York Stock Exchange in various senior management positions in research, strategic planning and international business development. Jim holds a B.A. from Harvard College and M.A. and M. Phil. degrees in economics from Yale University.
